If no one ever tells the truth, how are we ever going to figure out what's going on?

5.07 "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham"

Just when it seemed like they had killed off all of the extraneous people leftover from the original flight, they crash a new plane so there are new survivors to stand around on the beach in the background while the main characters talk. I hope they divide into 815 and 316 gangs and fight. That'll be fun.

Really Locke? You couldn't go a day without telling someone you were dead? Way to freak out the newbies. Also, Cesar (talkative Latino guy from the plane) seems to have asserted control over the group pretty quickly. What's that about? Ana Lucia 2.0?

Hmmm, Charles Widmore hardly seems in the know about what's really going on. I had suspected that he and Ben were fighting because he had once been the Others' leader and had been dethroned by Ben. Seems like that was a correct assumption. And it still seems like that's the mindset that Widmore is working from. And Ben as well, to some degree...maybe. I'm starting to wonder, though, if they're also being played. Why is Richard Alpert always around but never really the leader of the Others? I'm beginning to wonder if everything going on is some machination that he's put into place. But I could be crazy.

Hurley's reaction to Locke's appearance was awesome.

I was about to say that I was very confused by Abaddon's involvement in all of this, but now he's dead so I guess he doesn't matter as much as I thought he might. He really must have been nothing more than an instrument of Widmore's will.

What's particularly confusing about this situation is that, for the most part, Widmore and Ben say the same things. Much in the same way that Mrs. Hawking seemed to be saying the same things as both of them last week. I really think it must be that either they're all working towards the same end intentionally, or that someone or something else is controlling everyone by playing them against each other.

Okay, watching Ben kill Locke really was quite upsetting. And Ben doesn't seem to realize that Locke will come back to life. That'll be a fun surprise...when Ben wakes up.

I will definitely be watching the Tonight Show

Conan & Andy are back together!

Now if they'd just put out a DVD of the Writer's Strike episodes of Conan, then all of my Conan O'Brien related dreams would be coming true.

My nose is bleeding...

...damn temporal displacement.

Lost is Fun!

Okay, I was lazy and didn't get around to posting about the last two episodes of Lost before last nights. So now that I've watched last night's I'll post about all three. It'll involve a lot of exclamation points.

5.04 "The Little Prince"

Jin's alive! Hooray! Hooray! Also, despite the fact that the French scientist's boat was named after the comet in Le Petit Prince I still don't understand why the episode is named as it is. But more importantly, Jin's alive!

5.05 "This Place is Death"

Charlotte! No! I didn't want her to die. I'd started to like her. The excessive time jumping was cool though. Particularly the one that ended with Sawyer holding onto a rope coming out of the ground. Very cool.

5.06 "316"

First of all, if there was only one flight that they all had to be on, why does Mrs. Hawking have to give Jack a whole binder full of flight schedules? Also, Desmond had a very good point about them all being pawns in some weird big game. This woman is just as much of a manipulative kook as Ben Linus and Charles Widmore. More importantly, he called Jack "brotha" again! Yay!

Didn't someone else recently say "That's why it's called a leap of faith"? Was that some other show? Oh, did Locke say it to Sawyer before he jumped down that well? I think so.

Right, there is no way that dude is old enough to be Christian Shepherd's father. I guess kind of like how Swoosie Kurtz and the dude that played Tom Cooper (was that his name?) didn't really seem old enough to be Locke's parents. TV is really bad about old people.

And now Kate's relationship with Sawyer is officially more healthy than her relationship with Jack. Good job guys. They are so messed up. And right about now I'm starting to feel like this series will end with Jack dying.

Oh fuck. Did Ben really kill Penny?! Or did he get the shit beat out of himself trying?

SWEET! Hurley's reading Y: The Last Man! Way to get a shout out on your own show BKV!

This is kind of a hilarious flight. Totally awkward and creepy for everyone involved who's not already a Lostie. What with everyone being all shifty and having stilted knowing conversations. And Ben being all creepily beat up. Ha, and now they're creeping the hell out of Frank. Fun! Anyway, they should have been taking the time to become better acquainted with their potential new castawaymates, Latino Guy, Cop with Sayid, and Flight Attendant Lady.

Jin! He should be the end shot of every episode! Yay!

NY Comic Con

Went to the NY Comic Con this past weekend. Had some fun.

On Saturday we saw Joe Quesada. We were really just in the room so we'd have seats for the Robot Chicken panel afterwards, but we got to hear a lot of things about the Marvel Ultimates series...none of which we read.

Then the Robot Chicken panel, as I mentioned. It was awesome. No Matthew Senreich, but Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, and several other important writer/producer-y people. Most of the clips were ones that had already aired this season, so that was a little disappointing, but they're still funny. Also there were many amusing interactions with audience members and Seth tried to start a cheering competition with the room nextdoor.

Saw the Torchwood panel because the schedule said it was Doctor Who. We wanted to be in the room to have good seats for The Venture Bros. anyway though. It was just Eve Myles and one of the frequent Torchwood/Doctor Who directors. It was a little on the boring side but Eve Myles seemed really nice and sweet and has a beautiful accent so she was nice to listen to. Also, I wore my 4th Doctor scarf.

Venture Bros. was amazingly funny. Doc Hammer is like a one man show. Jackson Publick is a bit more understated, but the exchanges between the two of them were great. This makes me really excited for season 4. Except that they made it abundantly clear that 24 really is dead. NO! But Doc Hammer said "Nissan Stanza" which made my day.

On Sunday we just went to Dollhouse. It was a little boring because it was just Joss and Tahmoh and they said pretty much the same things we'd heard them say at the panel in San Diego. They also showed the first ten minutes of the pilot that's airing this Friday. I was kind of luke warm about it but boyfriend seemed to like it well enough. We'll probably watch it for a while no matter what since it's on after Sarah Connor Chronicles now.

Tweeting my complaints

I don't particularly like the idea of Twitter but yesterday I had an idea that was amusing to me so I've given in and set up a Twitter account.

I've decided that for the next 3 1/2 months that I live in this apartment before I move I'm going to record the noises that distract and disturb me. I've mentioned before about the jazz band downstairs and the screaming people in the hallways. I'll certainly keep track of those as well as the random trucks that stop in the alley outside in the middle of the night, the construction that seems to be happening periodically in the building behind mine, and the terrifying banging noise the pipes make whenever the heat comes on.

So, for anyone interested, NoiseAlert.

Name Smooshing

In watching Star Trek: TNG (which I just started on recently and have now watched most of the way through season 3) I have become a Picard/Dr. Crusher shipper. Because I am always a shipper. It made me wonder if there's a clever name smoosh for this pair. After perusing the TNG section of fanfiction.net it doesn't seem that there is. It did make me start thinking about name smooshes for couples in fanfic I read. So, as far as I'm concerned, this calls for a list of smooshes I ship (is this even English anymore?):

- Spuffy
- Spangel
- LoVe
- Skate
- Chair (or Bluck)
- Janto
- Syelle
- Paire (before it was incest)
- BroTP (This is Robin and Barney of HIMYM. I'm still not clear why.)
- Hodgela
- Jam

Oh, I was just trying to think if BSG has any smooshes and thought of a great one that needs to be used: Geighta!

Well this was pointless. But it was fun to think about trying to smoosh Booth and Bones. You just end up with Booth or Bones, so it doesn't work at all.

Faraday inspires me...unfortunately

5.03 "Jughead"

I told myself (and someone I'll refer to as "Karl") that I was going to write a sonnet about this episode, and Faraday in particular, so then I felt compelled to actually do it. It didn't go so well. Behold:

Daniel asked Desmond to go to Oxford
To save himself, some Losties, and Charlotte
Trapped in time as it skips like a record
They need an escape before they get caught

Desmond finds Daniel's ex-love Teresa
On life support provided by Widmore
Living old mem'ries while in a coma
But not the woman Desmond's looking for

Daniel, Juliet, Miles, Charlotte, Sawyer
And Locke all meet with old time-y Others
Daniel talks hydrogen bombs with Alpert
And reveals to Charlotte that he loves her

He finds a gun toting girl named Ellie
Who could be his mom when she was twenty
Leave it to me to turn a poem about an awesome character on Lost into something boring and tedious (and also to completely ignore iambic pentameter). I think I'm going to have to abandon my "creative" efforts to pay homage to the show. Or at least limit my efforts to prose.
